The Village Family Services is a community-based nonprofit organization in North Hollywood, CA focused on the prevention and treatment of child abuse and family violence.
We serve primarily Latino, monolingual Spanish-speaking children and families living in the greater San Fernando Valley area. Our foster care program serves children and teens living in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura counties. Many of our clients have been devastated by physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and are challenged by extreme poverty, lack of education and employment opportunities, language barriers, substance abuse and lack of health insurance. Without aggressive intervention and education, the cycle of child abuse and family violence will continue among this critically challenged, vulnerable and underserved population.
We offer our services at low or no-cost to our clients, and no child is turned away for lack of ability to pay. Although we receive funding from agencies including Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, the Department of Children and Family Services and the Victims Compensation Program, as a nonprofit we also depend on the generosity of corporate and private sector benefactors, as well as private foundation grants, to help us extend our services.
Co-founders Hugo Villa, L.M.F.T., and Irma Seilicovich, L.M.F.T., established the organization in 1997 to address the significant lack of culturally sensitive and appropriate, high-quality services for Latino children and families victimized by violence, abuse and neglect. Under their leadership, The Village Family Services has emerged as a comprehensive resource center focused on providing direct services to children and families in need.
We provide comprehensive bilingual/bicultural services in five major programmatic areas: Mental Health, Foster Care, Domestic Violence, Parenting Support, and Wraparound Services, an intensive program for children at risk of out-of-home placement. Services are provided by a professional staff that is 85% bilingual/bicultural Spanish-speaking, including licensed therapists, case managers, administrative and executive staff.
