The Village Foster Care Program provides foster care placement services for abused and neglected children and teens in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside and Ventura counties.
Our program focuses on achieving the following goals:
- Provide loving, stable and safe family environments for children in out-of-home care
- Recruit, train and certify professional foster parents in each county the program serves
- Provide reunification services and increase permanency for every child
The program provides emergency short-term and longer-term placements for children from birth to 17 years of age. Children with special health care needs are also accepted into the program and placed with specially trained foster caregivers.
To ensure the safety and care of the children placed in foster care, the program provides extensive training for individuals wanting to become foster parents. Children are only placed in homes with foster caregivers who have successfully completed the training. The certification process is rigorous and includes 32 hours of classroom participation, in addition to home study, CPR/First Aid and water safety training, personal interviews, a home site inspection, reference reviews, and an overview of the County’s foster care and legal policies and procedures. Parenting Training is a significant portion of the curriculum and explores all aspects of the foster care experience.
