For teens and adolescents who struggle with extreme stress and chaos in their daily lives, The Village Family Services provides a unique treatment program. SPARCS (Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress) is a 16-week program originally developed by The North Shore University Hospital (Manhasset, NY) specifically designed for youth ages 12-19 who are challenged by chronic interpersonal traumas.

SPARCS is a program designed for adolescents who have been traumatized, often repeatedly, and who continue to live with high levels of stress. The SPARCS program aims to help traumatized adolescents find the spark of light within themselves and build on their strength and resilience.

Adolescents participate in SPARCS by attending group sessions conducted weekly by specially trained therapists. The treatment is designed to be implemented while an adolescent may still be living in an unstable and stressful environment. Therapists work with group members to help them identify and build upon their strengths. SPARCS helps teens learn coping, problem-solving and communication skills, enhance their self-esteem, establish supportive relationships, cultivate awareness and mindfulness, and create meaning in their lives.
