Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a treatment program developed at Allegheny General Hospital, Drexel University College of Medicine and New Jersey CARES Institute, designed to address the unique needs of children with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other problems related to traumatic life experiences, such as sexual or physical abuse, and domestic or community violence. TF-CBT provides individual treatment for children and youth (ages 5-18) and for their parents or caregivers, as well as joint parent-child treatment sessions.
The evidence-based program combines cognitive and behavioral interventions with traditional treatments for child abuse and focuses on enhancing a child’s interpersonal trust and re-empowerment. The relatively short period of time for treatment – between 12-16 weeks – is an additional program benefit. The Village Family Services is one of only a few Los Angeles-area clinics with trained TF-CBT therapists. For more information, please contact us at mentalhealth@thevillagefs.org.
