What are the basic requirements to foster a child?

You must be at least 18 years of age and live in Los Angeles County. You and any other adults in the household will need to pass a background check

Are there any health requirements?

Yes, you have to complete a health questionnaire and be in good physical and mental health.

Do I need to own my home?

No, you can rent or own and live in a house, apartment or mobile home.

Is there a minimum income requirement?

No, there is no household income requirement. However, you do need to demonstrate that you are able to provide a healthy and stable home for the child.

Do you have to be a traditional two-parent household to qualify?

No, you can be single, living with a long-term partner, or married. Adults who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or “questioning” are welcome.

How long does the child stay in my home?

Circumstances vary— less than a week to several years.
